Funky Patterns are In

I like sketching digitally... I'm faster that way because nothing really stops my flow when I draw, and I get to look at reference images really fast and easily using my super awesome double screens.

But painting digitally or cleaning up drawings digitally is a whole different story... It takes me forever because I start becoming mechanical and too concerned about making things perfect... which in the end makes my drawings stiff. 

Even this is a bit stiff for a sketch...

Still looking for a proper workflow.

Today's Quickie

One of these days I will post my cafe drawings from the subway.  I'm still kinda lazy to scan things... that's why I prefer drawing digitally sometimes.  I like drawing either way, but most of the stuff I have here are digital drawings. I can finally go to life drawing! I want to try to go every week, but the next few weeks are going to be so busy, I don't know how possible that would be.

At the current moment, I am a Production Intern for Guru Studios.  I know that I have been drawing my entire life, and all of a sudden I want to be a producer.  But hear me out, as I'm getting tired of trying to defend my choices to people.  I STILL LOVE to DRAW.  I will keep this up forever and ever, but the deal is, drawing is like a therapy for me.  I like to do what I want to do, and when I decide to do art for a living, I'd need some kind of freedom (like a concept artist), to which I am not there yet.

However, I DO enjoy being in Production.  I want to be a producer as well, because I like being in the loop and talking to people. I like organizing artist schedules, and making sure that things get done on time.  I like going to meetings, and understanding the business side of things.

I feel that my career is currently on the young side, and I know that throughout a person's life time, they go through about 5 career changes.  I plan to be in the Animation Industry for a long time, and it has a lot of sides to it that I'd love to explore.

For now, here's a fashion drawing I've been working on recently.  Enjoy.

Lighting and Texturing Demo Reel Updated

Woah! Blogger has just changed, and it looks really clean.  In any case, here is an update of my Demo Reel.  I just added more things to it, not real biggie.  Although for some reason, the colours look slightly different to me, but I quite like it.  So in any case, you'll be hearing more from me as May is Anime North Illustration month... PLUS!, I just finished my tight dead-line project with Rune Entertainment, and I think the project will be up on Facebook by this week.  I also have a few life drawings that I should be putting up soon, but I'd like to gather more before I do so.

Demo Reel Finished

Hi everyone! My first Demo Reel upon finishing school is finally done! Well, I have enough to showcase, but that doesn't mean I won't have more eventually. I plan to do more lighting and rendering in my free time, and hopefully my career will start off from showcasing my work. It has been a rough 7 weeks, and even with my positive mentality, it was difficult to always keep my chin up.

But I worked hard, and I'm happy with my reel. It's not perfect by any means, but I'm glad to have overcome all the challenges that I went through.

Scene Two Work Up

During my reading week, I spent so much time downloading meshes to incorporate for a scene I had in mind for my Demo Reel. But my break was not only used towards that, I spent almost the entire week U.V. mapping my scene to near perfection, and no, it's not perfect, but it will do. So here is scene two. Again, the first picture at the top is the closest to what I am going for. It looks like a miniature room... it's kinda cute.

Basic Colours and Shaders

Hi everybody. Here is my currently update for my Demo Reel. Feedback is much appreciated, and look forward to seeing more next week. This week was all about adding colours and shaders, and U.V. mapping. U.V. mapping is something I take very seriously, and I spent a long time working on it as well. Next week, I will be working on textures and finalizing the timing of the shots. These are just playblasts. I'm afraid that if I fully render them that they would take forever. Although I will most likely start a proper render for next week, meaning that my weekly updated video would only be of specific shots.

Basic Lights and Composition

Hello everyone, while I go through the last few weeks of being in school working on my demo reel, I'd also like to show you guys what I'm working on and going through in as much depth as I can. For this week, I'm setting up the basic mood for my scenes.

Now that I look at it again, the top image might be too dark, I'll have to fix that. Everything in the bottom image is completely mine, from the currently straight flowers, to the houses and the light bulb trees. I don't mind hard surface modelling, but character modelling with Maya is a bit more annoying. I might start dabbling in zBrush one day, but for now, Demo Reel first.
